Story:

Siddharth is a happy-go-lucky guy whose parents(Prakash raj, Ramya Krishna) get seperated in his childhood . He falls in love with Geetha(Tamannah), a traditional village girl who comes to the city for her studies. Geetha's father(Nasser) doesn't agree for their marriage citing the hero's parents' parting. The rest of the story is how siddharth unites his parents and wins his love.

Artistes' Performance:

Siddharth is very good in the role of a sincere lover and a lovable son. He puts in a lot of energy in to his role. This kind of roles are not new for him and he shows natural elaan.Tamannah suits the role well as his love. She has improved a lot from her previous films. Prakash raj excels in the role of Siddhu's father. Ramya krishna is not so good in the role of Hero's mother. Jaya sudha could have been a very good choice. Nasser is apt as the father of the heroine. Brahmanandam as 'Gachibowli Diwakar' and Venu madhav provide comic relief. The friend-gang of the hero and heroine are good.

Direction:

Director Kishore Kumar makes his debut with this film. The first half of the film deals with the romance of the lead pair and the second half is about the the re-union of the hero's parents. The story of the film is not new but the director shows novelty in dealing with this kind of subject. The songs are well-picturized. Especially the songs 'Konchem istam konchem kastam', 'Egire egire', 'Aanandama', 'Panchirey' are a feast to the eyes. The climax of the film, though dragged, fits the bill. Direction of the film is good in some scenes. The following scenes are well-made

1. The concept of 'Nammakam' by the heroine

2. The Geetanjali episode

3. The concept of crossing marks, again by the heroine

4. The hero apologizing when he is drunk

5. The way the song 'Konchem istam konchem kastam' song is used

6. The lead-pair's efforts to regenerate love between hero's parents

However, the basic plot of the film arond which the story is woven- the parting of the hero's parents, is not well-established. The narration of the film is slow. It picks up momentum in the beginning of the second half but slackens after the 'Konchem istam konchem kastam' song. The director couldn't avoid a lot of melodrama in the climax of the film. Duration of the film is too long and the climax of the film is a little bit dragged.

Technical Departments:

Music by Shankar-ehsaan-loy is top-notch. Infact the songs add more value to the film. Lyrics by Siri vennela Seetha ram sastry, Chandra bose and Ramajogayya Sastri are excellent. Editing is not that good. Especially the scenes doesn't appear to be in a flow. The six-time National award winner(Srikar Prasad) could have done better. Cinematography by Vijay C Chakravarthy needs special mention. His Camera work carries the mood and tempo of the film. The Vibrant colours and light work makes the film a visual wonder. Art work is good. Back ground score by Mani sarma is adequate. Dialogues by Bommarillu fame Abburi Ravi are good at parts. The dialogues in which the heroine's father explains why he doesn't accept her lover(nee istam), Brahmanandam's dialogue, "break kaalitho vesananukunnava, ledura jaalitho vesanu" are very nice. The dialogues which form the climax of the film are also well-written. Technically the film is sound, and the producer is praise-worthy, for providing with good technicians, to a debut director

Review:

On the whole 'Konchem Istam Konchem Kastam'  is a movie that can be watched for its lead pair and  a couple of subtle performances and well-picturized songs . The success of the film depends on how it appeals to the family audience.

Interestingly, Vikram, who will be playing Ravan in the Hindi version of the movie, will play Ram in the Tamil version..

With just about three months to go for the CAT 2008, how are you holding up under the pressure?

Are there any specific strategies you should be looking at to improve your sectional scores and accuracy?

What percentile should you be targeting to ensure a call from the IIMs?

To answer these and many other CAT-related questions, R Shiva Kumar, director -- R&D, Career Launcher, hosted a chat with GA readers on August 8. For those of you who missed the chat, here's the \unedited transcript:

raj asked, quant important topics which are most important for cat point of view plz tell me

SHIVA KUMAR answers, The critical Topics at a broad level are Numbers, Algebra and Geometry

raj asked, how can i mprove my logic in di section

SHIVA KUMAR answers, The most difficult part of any preparation is to train your mind into "thinking"...If you have practised enough...look at certain books that have puzzles in them...You could actually conditioned your mind into the pattern of thinking logically...IF YOU HAVE HAD ENOUGH PRACTICE OF THE BASICS !!

NNM asked, I HAVE NOT STARTED THE CAT PRE. CAN IT BE POSSIBLE IN 3 MONTHS TO CRACK THE TEST. I AM ALSO WORKIN FOR 8HOURS

SHIVA KUMAR answers, oF COURSE IT IS POSSIBLE...But to crack it with 3 months of preparation your fundamentals in Math and English need to be good...In which case Practice for the next 3 months is adequate...If you have started learning the basics now...It could be a tough ask ( especially in English )

sunil asked, In CAT people says your basics should clear but cat is not the basics exams ,how one can clear this exam only knowing the 10 class maths

SHIVA KUMAR answers, Look at any CAT paper...You would find sufficient number of questions that fall in the purview of class 10th...Grammar / RC / DI do not need post class 10th fundas...Yes there are a few concepts in Quant which are beyond the class 10th...So in essence it is possible to do with class 10th fundas...

Rajat Aggarwal asked, i got 95 percentile in CAT 2007, still i did not get any admission in colleges I wanted to. I had one year experience in the banking sector. I am a BBA in Finance from Ip University. I am sure that top MBA colleges are either looking for a fresh engineering graduates or a person with a good number of work experience. What do you think??

SHIVA KUMAR answers, There definitely is a trend of increasing numbers of work ex guys getting into the top B Schools...It is a plus....But that does not mean that the deserving freshers are kept out

sunil asked, The reasoning section is totally analytical no institute can reach upto the expectations of the cat exam , how one should prepare for this unending probabilities exam

SHIVA KUMAR answers, There needs to be sufficient practice for logic too just as in the case of a typical quant question. Ofcourse, as you rightly say there are unending possibilities...It is impossible to cover all of them. But every one of these questions ( if I take CAT as an example ) has a few starting points ...you need to learn to identify this. Please spend a lot of time analysing the logic questions.

lalit asked, is it possible to start now for cat 2008 and get a fair %?

SHIVA KUMAR answers, It is possible to get a good %ile... I have known a lot of guys who have cracked CAT starting as late as july / August....Your knowledge of the basics and reading habits would decide how good a %ile you can get

zishan asked, strategy for CAT 2008..???

SHIVA KUMAR answers, When you say strategy...Are you asking ...How many questions are likely to come ?...At a broad level...Expected to be not too far away from 75...Spend the last 3 months fixing the topics that you still are not comfortable with...Focus on reading every day... Take sufficient tests...Any other info ?

Bharat asked, When are CAT exams for 2008

SHIVA KUMAR answers, :)...The last dates for buying the applications is over !!...Exam on 16th Nov

mudit asked, plz some1 answer my question.... I HAVE NOT STARTED THE CAT PRE. CAN IT BE POSSIBLE IN 3 MONTHS TO CRACK THE TEST??

SHIVA KUMAR answers, I have known quite a few people who have cracked with 3 months practice...Key thing is at the present moment how good is your fundamentals in Math, and how good are u at Reading

umesh asked, hello..i want to ask i hav prepared for cat but i have got a placement to in keane india.should i take a job or go for cat

SHIVA KUMAR answers, If the option is between IIMs or a couple of other top colleges...It may be preferred over a job...If you are aspiring to get into a very good B school and you do not see these possibilities pick up Keane

nish asked, Hello... How many hours should one read per day if they are starting there CAT-08 preparation now?

SHIVA KUMAR answers, depends on when you started...For someone who started a few months back ...3 to 4 hrs sufficient.

sandy asked, will the no. of questions be 75 or more?/

SHIVA KUMAR answers, I am not sure if it will be 75...I can stick my neck out and say it would not be too far away from it...Looking at the trends...

mudit asked, Hello... How many hours should one read per day if they are starting there CAT-08 preparation now?

SHIVA KUMAR answers, If you are the average type...maybe 4 hours of practice at the study table...Reading need not be practiced at the table...

sanjay asked, hi,good after noon sir sir , i want to know about the books which covers all the topics of CAT(quant, logical,di)

SHIVA KUMAR answers, If you have enrolled with any of the coaching institutes make sure that you complete that material before shopping for any books...Look at the CAT papers...There is no magic stuff that in it that would not be included in the material that you have... If you are not enrolled ...enrol for some test series to get adequate practice...I am hoping you are not starting from zero..

The most comprehensive would be "material" created for coaching ...any institute...If you do not have it buy some standard books available in the market for CAT preparation...There are three standard Publications...Tata McGraw Hills, Pearson, Arihant...Pick any of them

vinay asked, hi would like tips on how to manage time for each section in CAT?

SHIVA KUMAR answers, Take the average as 50 min per section...Now tweak your planning around this...for instance if you are very good at Quant, maybe 45 min...If you are relatively weak at a section you could give 55 min...all this if you are clearing or are close to cutoffs in your practice tests...Else spend time on maximising your scores...if that is my strategy i would give 55 min to quant and 45 min to the wek section...Experiment with your practice tests b4 deciding on a strategy

shyam asked, hi, i have work-ex of 2years in one firm and 6 years in another firm. i m an IITian. Should i go for PG through CAT or EDP.Will it be disadvantageous to mention in CAT form 8 years of work ex.

SHIVA KUMAR answers, Shyam...You must ideally look for a foreign university / ISB / only the IIMs...It is a fact that in India 8 years of work ex could be a disadvantage unless you have been working the same space that you want to specialise in...Else EDP is an option...but it is unlikely to increase your value in the job market

suman asked, Hi I am suman from kolkata can you give me idea to crack English(Verbal+ reading comprehension)

SHIVA KUMAR answers, Grammar....It is rule based, make sure you have seen enough to remember the rules... Rest ...All the others have reading element attached to them...Hence, unless you make your reading process more efficient and approach it logically ( and not as a mechanical process ) it would be tough to improve this section. Take the previous CAT papers and analyse closely the RC / Crital Reasoning...and see how questions are framed / can they be approached thru options ...This could be very revealing and would help you be more efficient in attempting the paper...

sunil asked, In cat academics plays a vital role or it's just for meeting the eligibility criteria.

SHIVA KUMAR answers, The past couple of years...it seems to be getting a little more importance...For instance, all the instiitutes are giving more weightage to acads...But at the end of the day if you do get a call how good you are beyond academics has a very large role to play in your final admission

sunny asked, Bhaiya ISB mein kaisejaa sakte hain?

SHIVA KUMAR answers, ISB is thru GMAT ...Plus Interview plus all the process of writing SOPs just like any other foreign univ...You are expected to have GMAT scores in excess of 690...( In fact the average GMAT score in ISB is close to 720 )

After the action and drama of the movie Contract, Ram Gopal Verma is all set to amuse the viewers with Phoonk Movieits upcoming movie, Phoonk. "Baladoor" Movie review

Posted by myspace | 11:48 PM | , | 0 comments »

Tagline: Baladoor - mama idi oka pedda family drama

Strengths: Ravi Teja

Weaknesses: Routine story and slow second half

Must see scenes:

1. Ravi Reja entry shot where he jumps from top of a car

2. Temple fight and market fight

3. Super star Krishna fight in the climax

Must avoid scenes: Nothing much

My analysis: Baladoor movie is a decent family entertainer but with a routine story line. One big family, one useless kid (hero) who is nice at heart. The whole family misunderstands him and he is pushed out of the house. But this good hero saves the entire family from different difficult situations but always is behind the scenes. The family realises his good deeds in the climax and the hero rejoins the family. We as audience have seen lot many telugu movies in the past with the same story line.

This weak and routine story line and a dragging second half makes this Baladoor just a watchable movie. The story writer should have taken care of the script and the screenplay in the second half should have been done better by the director to make it a better movie.

Uday Shankar who earlier directed Kalisundam Raa for Suresh Productions is still in the same mood of family stories. How could he think that a superhit story 8 years back can re-create the same magic and success again??? He could have worked more on the script part and changed it according to the new-age cinema audience.

Performances: Ravi Teja is the saving life of the movie. He has done his routine care free action in the first half and a little serious mixed with mass action in the second half.

Superstar Krishna does the role of peddanana to Ravi Teja. It is very nice to see Krishna in such kind of decent and nice role. He did his performance with ease and elan. The best part in Krishna’s action is the action sequence in the climax where he hits 10 goons at a time and proves himself once again as Superstar.

Anushka is good as heroine. She has lost the unnecessary fat in this movie which she developed for Don movie. Anushka’s role is just restricted to the songs. She showed all her glamour in the songs.

…..Anushka vacchindante then song vachindannamata…..

Chandra Mohan as Ravi Teja’s father, Pradeep Rawat and Subbaraju as villans are good and adequate in their roles.

Brahmanandam and Sunil created the much necessary comedy in the movie which was good.

Fights are well picturized in the movie and showed Ravi Teja’s powerful emotions in the movie.

Songs are average. Music by Radha Krishna is also average. No song can make any impression on audience except for the last song. The good part in songs is that they are all shot in good locations and sets. Another asset for the songs is Anushka.

Screenplay and direction by Uday Shankar is just average. He selected a routine and old story line and tried to give a new look to it in which he miserably failed. The story lost tempo in the second half and also he added more emotion in it because of which the audience will feel little bored.

Story: Chanti (Ravi Teja) is a care-free family member in Ramakrishna (Superstar Krishna) joint family who does nothing but kicking baddies. Chandramohan who is the father of Chanti sends him out of the house. Bhanumathi (Anushka) who is a student falls in love with this Baladoor for his good deeds. Chanti who comes out of the house saves his family members from all the problems created by Pradeep Rawat and his brother-in-law Subbaraju.

In the climax, Ramakrishna and his entire family comes to know about all the good deeds of Chanti from a well-wisher and brings him back to the house along with his lady love Bhanumathi.

Cast: Ravi Teja, Anushka, Superstar Krishna, Chandra Mohan, Brahmanandam, Pradeep Rawat, LB Sriram, Sunil, Subba Raju, Parachuri Venkateswara Rao and many more.

Banner: Suresh Productions

Music: KM Radha Krishna

Producer: Suresh Babu

Screenplay & Direction: Uday Shankar

Final Judgement: Average

Mega opening of SINGH IS KINNG means that Akshay Kumar’s next big release, CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA, has got trade even more excited. What also contributes a lot to excitement around the film is its title which yet again promises to showcase the real life saga of Akshay Kumar after an all-around Punjabi show in SINGH IS KINNG.

Yet another big film which revolves entirely around the character played by Akshay Kumar who makes an eventful journey from the by lanes of Chandni Chowk to the forbidden land of China, CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA is expected to arrive in the month of December. Also starring Deepika Padukone in a double role (who would have seen her BACHNA AE HASEENO released by that time), the film is directed by Nikhil Advani.

Says a trade insider, ”Even though Nikhil didn’t quite have a great outing with SALAAM-E-ISHQ, we must remember that he is the same man who made KAL HO NA HO. With CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA, he has changed genre yet again and opted for an action comedy entertainer. Moreover Akshay’s name is good enough to excite an audience.”

If that was the case, why wasn’t TASHAN a success?

”Yes, TASHAN was an exception but if one looks closely, even Akshay was guarded during the film’s promotion. He is a smart man and probably knew which way the film was headed for. That’s the reason there wasn’t much hue and cry even though he was the best part about the film. Also, one must remember that YASH RAJ FILMS traditionally do not go for a publicity overdrive whereas Vipul Shah made sure that SINGH IS KINNG was the talk of the town. Akshay chipped in a big way as well to the film’s promotional plan and as everyone can see, history has been made”, says the insider wisely.

So what can one expect from CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA?

”It is as simple as that; if you find Akshay talking about the film through all avenues possible and genuinely promoting it in a big way, be rest assured that he is excited about the film”, he comments, ”Akshay knows that he is a huge brand and there is a responsibility which comes with his spoken words. Audiences dote on him and he will never want to hurt them by talking big about a poor product. In any case, CHANDNI CHOWK is a well made film and that’s the very reason why trade is mighty excited about it.”

Shot in a major way at some exotic locations in China, the film is a co-production of Mukesh Talreja and Rohan Sippy. The film also stars Mithun Chakraborty in a principal role with Ranvir Shorey in the role of ‘Chopstick’. Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy have composed the music for a Nikhil Advani film yet again after KAL HO NA HO and SALAAM E ISHQ.

Singh is Kinng

Singh is Kinng is about a halfwit Sikh guy, Happy Singh (Akshay Kumar), from a village in Punjab who always cause trouble to village people and they are vexed by his unique ability to cause troubles. So, in order to get rid of him, they pack-off him to Australia to bring underworld King, Lucky Singh (Sonu Sood), back to their village. There he lands into various troubles and meet the love of his life, Sonia (Katrina Kaif), who is already committed.

This is the general outline of the film and to be honest, it is not that “original”. Singh is Kinng is filled with serendipities and misunderstandings. Add a lot of toilet jokes to it, and there you have a typical Anees Bazmee movie. His last movie, Welcome, was a big success, but the same thing can’t be said about the reviews from both the critics and the audience. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, check out IMDB.com, there it only got 5.4/10 rating from 825 votes.

But that was the past, now let’s get back to Singh is Kinng. Honestly speaking, Singh is Kinng is a very competent idea of the director to make huge money, just like with Welcome, without even giving a damn about the audience who pays a lot to watch an amiable and sensible comedy.

From the title of the movie, you expect it to have some different approach to portray Sikhs in the Bollywood movies unlike those movies in which Sikhs are represented as cretinous (idiots). But no, this movie is the same like those movies. I’m a person who believes in providing full liberty to the artist to express his opinions, even if they offend someone.

But, if you give a title Singh is Kinng to a movie, then I expect you to justify the title of the movie. Sadly, this is not the case with this one. No doubt, this movie would be a big hit, but when it comes to morals and honesty towards your work, it falls flat.

Performances

Akshay Kumar

He is undoubtedly the king of comedies and he is proving his worth with every movie. He really gets into the character of Happy Singh, and delivers it with brilliance.

But again, I’ve one question for him. I know you are a popular star now, but why are you pretending to care about the Sikhs? You go on blabbering about Singh is Kinng on award shows and promotional events, but where is your honesty towards the subject?

Just say that, “I only want to make money out of it and I don’t give a shit about anything else. I want to be the King of Bollywood.”

You should use your popularity to do some movies that can send some good message among the youth of India instead of doing such cheap movies. That is the difference between you and Aamir Khan and ShahRukh Khan.

Katrina Kaif

Please someone tell this girl to stop acting. This is one of the worst performances I’ve seen in a long time. She can even make Ayesha Takia’s performance in De Taali as an Oscar worthy performance.

I know you’ve the looks that can make any guy want to be with you in bed and believe me, directors and producers are using you for this reason only. You don’t stand anywhere close to the other female actors in terms of acting like Vidya Balan, Deepika Padukone, Kareena Kapoor, hell you are even worse than Aishwarya Rai and I’m really serious about this.

Please go to some good acting school and learn some acting. You’re just an eye candy in the movies and I don’t think it is a good sign for your career.

Supporting Cast

I’m really mad about the wastage of Ranvir Shorey in this movie. He is one of the best actors to come out from Bollywood in recent times. Why did you waste such a wonderful talent in your movie, Anees Bazmee?

Om Puri shares a good chemistry with Akshay and gives an above average performance. Kirron Kher really stands out in the movie. Javed Jaffrey, Neha Dhupia and Sonu Sood give average performances.

Final Words – Singh is Kinng is your average Akshay Kumar entertainer. Go to the cinema hall without your brain and you’ll enjoy it, although chances are less. Akshay Kumar carries this movie on his shoulders. If you are a diehard fan of Akhsay Kumar, then it would be a perfect treat for you. And if you are not, better wait it to come on TV.

One advice to Anees Bazmee - Please stop making such stupid movies and use your talent in a better way. I know you want to make a lot of money, but please, don’t do it on the expense of someone’s feelings and yes, I’m talking about Sikhs. Have some morals and I’m talking to you too, Akshay!

I’m not a religious fanatic and I simply don’t care about anything but not everyone is like me. But I can bet that many Sikh groups would be pissed at this movie. I was going through the reviews of the movie and found one on Sikhnet. Do read it and you’ll see what they think about this one.

Verdict – If brainless and toilet humor is your taste of a good comedy then go watch it. Be my guest. But if your taste is opposite to mentioned above then refrain yourself from this one.

Box-office result – It would be a big hit as I mentioned earlier, considering the hype around this movie. But sometimes, there is something more than just money which is certainly not true for both the director and the actors.

Rating - 1 out of 5

Highlights

Nandamuri Balakrishna's action in the movie is the top notch. He managed the dual roles of Lord Krishna and Kundarika very well. He adjusted from the woman's man role to devotee role very well. Balakrishna as Lord Krishna made the audience think of Sr.NTR .

Sneha's acting has done a good job as wife of Balakrishna. K.Vishwanth as always stealed the show with his acting. Mohan Babu's guest role is brief but brilliant. Raghavendra Rao's direction showed in the songs. Also he succeeded in showing the movie differently when compared to his previous movies.

The taking second half of the film is simply awesome. Second Half of the movie dominates. Kiravani's tunes added to the movie.

Sidelights:

L.B. Sri Ram as Narada did not fit the role. Bharavi's story is not as effective as his previous ones. The graphic work in the movie is too weak to handle. The story is the first half seems a little bit dragged. There is no much comedy in the movie. The comedy scenes involving Sunil, Ali and Dharmavaram Subramanyam pertained to a few giggles in the audience. Raghavendra Rao's selection of character artists for Lord Krishna's wives did not please the audience.

Verdict: Movie is a 100% hit and works out very well at the box office.

Rating : 7/10
